Extra English
Students will be assigned classes on arrival dependent on age & ability; Get Ahead English or Academic English. For minimum level of CEFR A2 and above
Students choosing this option will study an extra 8 hours per week to improve their English further. Students will be assigned to one of the following options based on their age and initial placement test score:
Get Ahead English 1 (ages 12-14, A2/B1):
This course is for younger students who want to accelerate their English learning. There will be a focus on expanding vocabulary as well as developing academic study skills. Sessions will include teamwork skills, listening and note-taking, time management, Cambridge Key and Preliminary taster sessions, adapted KS3 subject-based lessons, paragraph writing, developing reading skills and presentation skills.
Academic English 1 (ages 12-14, B2+):
This course is designed to prepare students for academic study at GCSE level. It will include Cambridge First / Advanced taster sessions, listening and note-taking skills, time management, presentation skills, KS3/ KS4 subject-based lessons, essay writing, reading skimming and scanning skills, and web quests.
Get Ahead English 2 (ages 15-17, A2/B1):
This course is for older students who want to develop their English rapidly. There will be a focus on expanding vocabulary as well as developing academic study skills. Sessions will include teamwork skills, listening and note-taking, time management, Cambridge Key and Preliminary taster sessions, adapted KS4 subject-based lessons, paragraph writing, developing reading skills and presentation skills.
Academic English 2 (ages 15-17, B2+):
This course is designed for students considering A level or University education in the UK. Sessions will include IELTS/Cambridge Advanced/Cambridge taster sessions, research skills, report writing, academic essay writing, listening and note-taking, presentation skills, KS4/5 subject-based lessons and how to apply for a British University place.
Please note not all sessions will be offered in each programme every week.
