Thanks expressed to Millfield from a Ghanaian charitable organisation
Jane Zohoungbogbo, MELHC Manager and Founder of the Kokrobite Chiltern Centre (a charitable organisation in Ghana) has expressed thanks to Millfield today on Ghana’s Independence Day:
6th March 2019 marks the 62nd Ghana Independence Day - a time for celebration, remembrance, parades and thanks, and it seemed appropriate to express our thanks to Millfield for the support they have been giving to Kokrobite Chiltern Centre in Ghana since 2008.
The Kokrobite Chiltern Centre is a charitable organisation founded MELHC Manager, Jane Zohoungbogbo, and her husband Martial in 2004. Kokrobite is a fishing village to the west of Accra, the capital of Ghana.
The Millfield English Language Holiday Courses (MELHC) have been supporting the centre by sponsoring the education of children. This was initially for ten children, but this number has grown over the years and the students and staff of MELHC now generously sponsor 25 children! Director of Holiday Courses and Events, Mark Greenow, has visited Ghana twice and thanks to a generous donation from Mark and his family, earlier this year a new bottle-built reading and play space was created. This building was named Florence House in remembrance of Mark's mother. This is a fantastic addition to the facilities at the centre and is much loved by the children.
Since 2015, pupils who attend Millfield during term-time have also collected their unwanted clothing and shoes for Kokrobite and the surrounding villages. The clothing collection is pupil-driven and last year Millfield pupils Cameron and Oska (who is current Head Boy) went to Kokrobite to help with the distribution of the donations.
