Job Vacancy : Course Secretary

We are looking for a Course Secretary for each of our campuses this summer. They will work closely with the Course Directors to help with the administration of the course, and communication with the main office.

This position is open for both new and returning staff to apply to.

The Holiday Courses consist of morning classroom teaching (taken by qualified teachers), followed by afternoon activities both sporting and non-sporting (taken by the activity staff) and an evening social programmes (run on a rota basis with all staff). Full day excursions (supported by the activities and pastoral staff) are on a Wednesday and half-day excursions (supported by the teaching and pastoral staff) are on a Saturday. Millfield English Language Holiday Courses are well established and many staff return year after year.

Job Description

As a Course Secretary you will be the first point of contact with regards to the course on the campus you are based. Clear communication skills are essential and information or enquiries should be directed to the correct departments. You will have to ensure you create a good relationship with the main office. Complete professionalism will be required if dealing with confidential matters. There will be general day-to-day administration duties and your primary role will be to keep the day book updated with everything that is going on at the course.

You will assist the Course Directors and Senior Management Team when needed. This may include taking meeting minutes, ensuring new staff have completed the relevant induction processes and that departing staff return any items that they have signed out or borrowed. You will also assist with creating and gathering back feedback forms from both staff and students. You will be supported by the Course Director who is the line manager.

Attendance at all relevant meetings is compulsory.

The course dates for summer 2018 are Sunday 8th July - Sunday 19th August.

Successful applicants will be invited to interview in April 2018.

Induction Training

Compulsory Induction training is immediately prior to the start of the course (paid pro rata).


The Course Secretary contracts will be dependant on the campus and for the duration of that particular course.

Time Off

The Course Secretary will have one day off per week. Special requests for additional time off are considered on a case-by-case basis.


Competitive salary, free food and accommodation, plus holiday pay which is calculated at 12.07%.
