Job Vacancy : Pastoral Manager

We are looking for a Pastoral Manager to join the Senior Management Team to guide and oversee our pastoral team this summer. Millfield English Language Holiday Courses are well established and many staff return year after year. The Holiday Courses consist of morning classroom teaching (taken by qualified teachers), followed by afternoon activities both sporting and non-sporting (taken by the activity staff) and an evening social programmes (run on a rota basis with all staff) There is a full day excursion on a Wednesday (supported by activity and pastoral staff) and a half day excursion on a saturday afternoon (supoorted by teaching and pastoral staff).

All students and a majority of the staff are accommodated in the one of the schools’ modern boarding houses throughout their time with us. Up to 15 boarding houses could be occupied at one time (dependent on student numbers) of which each will be led by a Houseparent and an Assistant Houseparent. Each house will be occupied with approximately 20-50 students and staff. As the Pastoral Manager, you will be responsible for all Houseparents and Assistant Houseparents.

  • Experience of working with young children is preferred
  • First Aid qualification is desirable but not essential as basic training will be provided at induction
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to get involved in all aspects of summer school life

Job Description

As the Pastoral Manager you will guide and oversee the pastoral team ensuring everything has been arranged, organised and advertised to the staff and the students. Student care and safety will be at the forefront of your job, as well as being there to direct and support the Houseparents and the Assistant Houseparents as their line manager.

You will hold regular staff meetings ensuring all staff are informed what is going on and that paperwork has been completed e.g. rotas, registers, risk assessments and reports. You will have to ensure routines such as food deliveries, laundry and cleaning are arranged and completed regularly. As part of your duty of care you will work closely with on site medical staff to ensure student health care is at its highest. You are responsible for student welfare and you will be assisted by a Pastoral Assistant who will help you with your role, along with the organisation of the rooming of both students and staff.

You will attend senior management meetings, being a link between departments. You will lead the pastoral team staff appraisal process and help mentor staff where applicable.

On arrival and departure days you will arrange the meeting and greeting of new students on the campus and create a staff duty rota for the Sunday transfer days.

The course dates for summer 2018 are Sunday 8th July - Sunday 19th August.

Induction Training

Compulsory Induction training is immediately prior to the start of the course (paid pro rata).

Contracts

Manager contracts are usually for the duration of the specific course with the possible addition of some set up and clean up time paid pro rata.

Time Off

Managers will have one day off per week. Special requests for additional time off are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Remuneration

Competitive salary, free food and accommodation, plus holiday pay which is calculated at 12.07%.
