Job Vacancy : Activities Manager

We are looking for an Activities Manager to join the Senior Management Team to oversee and drive our activities programme this summer. Millfield English Language Holiday Courses are well established and many staff return year after year. The Holiday Courses consist of morning classroom teaching (taken by qualified teachers), followed by afternoon activities both sporting and non-sporting (taken by the activity staff) and an evening social programmes (run on a rota basis with all staff).

  • Experience of working with young children is preferred
  • Experience of working on a residential summer school is preferred but not essential
  • First Aid qualification is desirable but not essential as basic training will be provided at induction
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to get involved in all aspects of summer school life

Job Description

As the Activities Manager you will drive the afternoon activities programme forward ensuring everything has been arranged, organised and advertised to the staff and the students. Student safety and enjoyment will be at the forefront of your job, as well as being there to direct and support the Activities Co-ordinators as their line manager and the activities staff team as a whole.

You will hold regular staff meetings ensuring all staff are informed of the weekly/daily activities and that paperwork has been completed e.g. rotas, registers, risk assessments. It is imperative that you ensure the Summer School database is kept up to date so you will know where every student and member of activity staff are each afternoon the activities programme is running. An accurate record of student activity course changes will also have to be kept.

You will attend senior management meetings, being a link between departments. You will lead the activity staff appraisal process and help mentor staff where applicable.

On arrival and departure days you will assist with the greeting of new students on campus.

The course dates for summer 2018 are Sunday 8th July - Sunday 19th August.

Successful applicants will be invited to interview in April 2018.

Induction Training

Compulsory Induction training is immediately prior to the start of the course (paid pro rata).


Manager Contracts are usually for the duration of the specific course with the possible addition of some set up and clean up time paid pro rata.

Time Off

Managers will have one day off per week. Special requests for additional time off are considered on a case-by-case basis.


Competitive salary, free food and accommodation, plus holiday pay which is calculated at 12.07%.
