English Language Tuition
English at Glastonbury
Providing our students with a good quality learning experience is our main aim, therefore on all of our courses we provide 15 hours of English tuition per week, with a maximum of 12 students per class.
All students attend 3 hours of English classes during the morning on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with trained teachers. Students are tested on arrival and placed into classes after taking factors including level, age, gender and nationality into account.
In order to expose the students to two different styles of teaching each class is allocated two teachers.
All teaching materials are provided and are included in the cost of the course. On successful completion of the course, all students will receive an academic report, general report and course certificate.
Millfield English Language Holiday Courses are accredited by the British Council and teachers are appropriately trained to teach English as a Foreign Language.
Course & Vocabulary Organiser
Students who have selected General English or Cambridge Assessment English will receive a Course and Vocabulary Organiser, written by Mark Greenow, which is an essential part of the academic programme and used in every lesson.
The CVO is a “thinking notebook” with sections for each part of the English learning experience. It also includes a diary, which students are encouraged to complete, vocabulary and grammar exercises, and a mini-dictionary making each student’s learning experience unique.
Students who have selected Global Young Leaders will receive a tailor-made Young Leaders Course and Vocabulary Organiser (YLCVO), to be used alongside online materials, videos, and Padlet – an online collaborative project.
Each student is given an Achievement Card at the start of the course. The aim is to try to complete as much of the card as possible by performing well during lessons, impressing the campus managers and being an all-round good student.
Along with international students of different nationalities, your child's English class may also feature an English Mentor. These young mentors guide, support, and help international students to develop friendships and model spoken English. They are residential and take part in all English lessons, activities, excursions, and social events.
